The world consumed 8 billion tons of coal in 2021, the highest amount in the last decade. And the International Energy Agency estimates that 2023 could see coal demand hit a new record high, after a small increase in 2022 due to China’s real estate crisis and Beijing’s continued zero Covid policy.
